Wondering how to pack fragile items?
It is no secret that moves can be complicated. There are so many things that go into a move, it is easy to get overwhelmed and frustrated by all of the things you have to get done. Moving the big stuff can be a hassle and packing the numerous boxes can be tiring and tedious, however one of the most important parts of moving is learning how to pack your fragile items. It is important that you know how to wrap up your delicate China or your many vases or home decorations. Here are a few simple tips on how to pack fragile items provided by Orange County Movers.
- Always have newspaper handy. – Though it is flimsy, having lots and lots of newspaper can help you provide padding and cushion for your delicate dishes. Making sure that your fragile items don’t touch and rub up against each other is crucial as it saves your items from too much friction and potential breakage. Stuffing newspaper or packing paper inside of items like vases and pots creates a lot more stability for the items because there is reinforcement coming from both sides.
- Use your tools wisely. – In addition to newspaper, bubble wrap, packing peanuts, and foam (if you can find it) are all great packing tools. Providing cushion is the most important part of packing fragile items. It keeps them from being knocked around and into each other and protects your items from smashing against the walls of your box. The right amount of cushion also protects your items if boxes or any other heavy items are places on top of it.
- Double boxing is always an option. – Double boxing something is when you put your packed box into a bigger box with included padding. This provides another layer of protection for your items and gives you more reassurance that the items won’t get damage. We suggest that this technique only be used for your most delicate items because it uses up an entire box and a lot of packing materials that you could be using for something else.
- Tell the movers what is fragile and what isn’t. – This will definitely help with the handling that the box will go through. If the delicate items are important you can go as far as to put it in the car as opposed to the moving truck. Moving trucks often stack boxes and delicate boxes can sometimes be lost and forgotten in the move. Make sure that doesn’t happen by letting them know.
